Everything You Know Is Wrong
NOTE: THIS DOCUMENT IS IN ITS EARLY STAGES, AND I REALIZE IT WILL SEEM LARGELY INCOHERENT. GIVE ME TIME.
Borders and Friction
While those who attempt to fix the world's problems are well-intentioned, most make the mistake of tackling a given problem in isolation. Most of the world's problems are interrelated, and the root cause of most of these problems is human nature itself.
The problem of illegal immigration is different. It's root cause is not human nature, but rather the very existence of national borders. Borders are inherently destructive because they create friction, and friction causes energy to be wasted. This is true whether you are talking about physics or economics.
Immigration
The issue of illegal immigration is everpresent in the news, but in the spring of 2006 the issue was ratcheded up a notch in importance. Despite all the news coverage and commentary that I have heard to date, certain points are conspicuously absent, and I find this a bit disheartening. While some news reports are clearly biased, and some commentors and pundits clearly blowhards, I have to maintain some hope that there are journalists out there who are interested in presenting the public with a complete picture of the issue, and that there are activists out there who genuinely want to improve the state of the world rather than simply advancing their own interests.
So why can I not hear anybody pointing out what seems obvious to me?
Illegal immigrants are routinely asked their opinions, and an oft-heard statement is "I am not a criminal. I am just trying to improve the lives of my children." But I never hear any reporter or commentator ask the burning question... why did the person have children in the first place without the means to support them??? The question is, of course, rhetorical, and has many answers, but I consider it an assault on truth that it is not asked.
The real issue is not how to deal with illegal immigration, but how to fix the problems in third world countries so that their citizens do not feel the need to emigrate to the United States in search of a better life. At the end of the day, the rational solution is population control. That this solution has not been brought to the forefront by those addressing the issue is irresponsible.
There is much more to be said, but I base my argument on the hypothesis that "that the present standard of living of the advanced countries is not sustainable and not extendable to the present backward countries". I must point out that the above quote is taken from this page, which actually advances the opposing viewpoint. I need to research the topic, but even without research it seems obvious to me that on a planet of a limited size, the human population cannot continue to expand indefinitely.
much more to come...
